BEWARE!!! Alex’s team replaced our front porch roof a few years ago. Since then the eaves have given way and the gutter has separated from the house so much so that the roof is now leaking onto the porch. I called him for a gutter repair. He did show up for the appointment and after seeing how much the eaves were sagging, he acknowledged that something was wrong. He didn’t know at the time but he promised to come back in two weeks to fix it. I assured him I would pay for his time despite his acknowledgment that something was wrong with the installation. Unfortunately I never heard back from him. I texted, emailed, left voicemails. No response whatsoever. I have given up. I am now looking for a contractor to fix their work before we have a complete collapse.
Please do not hire Alex contracting/Montclair Roofing. They are THE worst roofer in New Jersey in ALL aspects. I hired Alex and his team back in October 2023 initially for a leak in my roof. He came and gave a consultation, looked at my roof and diagnosed it as bad flashing around the base of the chimney that was causing the problem. He charged us 900 dollars to fix the flashing and fix the leak. He also gave us a 10 year warranty. After the initial "repair" of the flashing, the leak from my roof GOT WORSE. I called him multiple times over and over, he COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK and continued to "fix" all different parts of the roof WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. He tore apart the shingles and added unnecessary fixes to our roof yet our roof continued to leak. He also NEVER COMES WHEN HE SAYS HE WILL COME!! I would contact the secretary asking Alex to come on wednesday, and you would be LUCKY if he comes that week. He never ever shows up on the promised date. Finally we asked for a refund as he gave us a warranty that this leak will be fixed. However he COMPLETELY refused to give a refund and said that the warranty does NOT guarantee him fixing the leak and "all it promised was a new flashing." He is a scammer who does not honor his word and DOES NOT respect his customers. I had to fight tooth and nail to even get partial money back. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!!
I would recommend staying away from this company!! Montclair Roofing did what I thought was good job on a new roof in 2021. It was a hard job on an old house. However, in the process they set a portion of the roof on fire. Since then, it has become clear that the roof was never repaired correctly in the area of the burn, or has reopened. It has been leaking into a portion of my living room ceiling and wall and the damage has become progressively worse. I have a 20-year warranty covering both exterior roof problems and interior damage. I have been calling and texting over and over since early September. It is not clear who is getting the messages, and any responses I get are extremely vague. Twice, without alerting me, guys were sent to repair the damage, the first a very young man with whom I could not communicate who spent about 20 minutes on the roof, the second an older man who reassured me about his level of experience and that he had indeed fixed it. At no time, even though I asked for this repeatedly, did anyone, let alone Alex, enter the house and evaluate the interior damage and the extent of the interior repair. Since then, I have observed more cracking, plaster peeling and so on, and have repeatedly texted about the problem. It seems that the roof is still not fixed. I become more concerned daily that significant structural damage may be underway. Again, often there is no answer or only a vague answer from a person whose identity and position in the company is unclear. Last Saturday, finally, Alex was supposed to come and see the interior damage, prior to what was finally set as a repair date, today, January 3. I waited for two hours on Saturday but Alex never showed, and no explanation was provided even when I followed up. Today, again, nobody showed. I texted and was told by the vague person that the message would be "passed on" (which is most often what is said). I have heard nothing. I will have to hire someone else to do the work, and may have no choice but to move to court to seek repayment for this work from Montclair Roofing.
My roof had a leak. I called Montclair Roofing for an estimate. Alex showed me pictures of where the leak was coming from. After looking at the pictures it was a obvious that a roof repair would be a band aid fix. Alex did not hard sell for a new roof, he gave me an option to repair or install a new roof. I got two other estimates. One contractor did the hard sell, the other gave me the option. Alex's estimate was reasonable and his honesty was what made me choose his company. Start to finish the roofing crew was professional and efficient. I would recommend Alex and company for any of your general contracting needs. I will absolutely use this company again!
Montclair Roofing painted my house in 2022. They were very responsive, organized, professional, and easy to work with. Any hiccups we had were addressed promptly and and to my satisfaction. The work was fairly priced compared to other quotes I received. The painting job was done during the pandemic when contractors were under a lot of outside pressure. It was a big job but was executed flawlessly. I have no hesitation recommending Alex and his team. I was very pleased and get many compliments on the finished product. I am also using him for another project.
